Literary research is often conducted by scholars, students, and enthusiasts who are interested in deepening their understanding of literature and its significance. It can involve a wide range of methods, including close reading, textual analysis, biographical research, and critical theory. A literary lens offers a unique perspective, allowing readers to delve deeper into a text's themes, characters, and overall meaning.
For instance, a feminist lens can shed light on gender issues, while a Marxist lens can examine class dynamics.
Determine which critical lens you will choose for your research. Use this guide to assist you in finding relevant resources on critical lens theory.
Each group will create a 6-7 slide presentation to explain the group's assigned literary theory.
Your group's Slides presentation must contain the following:
• A title slide to introduce your group's assigned theory and the names of your group members and period number
• A brief introduction - definition of and analysis on your theory, including originators or major proponents
• Basic background information, such as: history of your theory (the time period), why would someone
most likely use this approach, what are the common literary terms associated with the theory, and what
questions does your approach address.
• Pros: Why would someone choose to use this approach? What are the advantages?
• Cons: What are the drawbacks of using this approach?
• Apply your approach to Shakespeare's Othello to explore that text through your theoretical lens. Write a brief commentary on the text using the assigned theory. Be sure also to use textual evidence from the play to support your commentary.
• Credits: Create a works cited slide for the images and works used to prepare your presentation.
